Common questions

One FAQ for all four sambals.

The label on your particular bottle is always the primary reference for ingredients, allergens, batch number and expiry.

01Are all four sambals halal?

Yes. SambalDeso is manufactured in a halal kitchen in Johor Bahru and the products carry the relevant halal mark on the current label. For verification of a particular purchase, check the logo and details on the bottle or contact Careline with the batch number.

02What is MeSTI?

The products are prepared in a facility holding MeSTI certification. MeSTI is a Ministry of Health Malaysia food-safety scheme that helps manufacturing premises meet fundamental food-safety and hygiene requirements.

03Are they vegetarian-friendly?

Yes, all four sambals are vegetarian-friendly based on the ingredients used. Always check the current label if you have specific dietary requirements.

04Is SambalDeso gluten-free?

Yes. All four SambalDeso sambals are gluten-free. Always check the current label if you have coeliac disease, a serious allergy or specific dietary requirements.

05Is MSG added?

No MSG is added. Mushroom powder is part of the recipes and may contain naturally occurring glutamates; this is not the same as adding MSG as a separate ingredient.

06Are preservatives added?

No artificial preservatives are added. The sambals are professionally retort-processed for product safety and stability.

07What allergen information should I know?

Only Sambal Gepuk contains candlenut, a tree nut allergen. The other three sambals do not contain this allergen. Always read the ingredient list on the bottle each time you buy. Anyone with a serious allergy should contact us before eating.

08How long does it keep?

Shelf life is up to one year unopened, subject to the expiry date printed on the bottle. Refrigerate after opening and always use a clean, dry spoon.

09Why is the texture not a fine paste?

Selected ripe chillies are prepared in textured pieces with fewer seeds to preserve the traditional character of sambal. The result stays boldly spicy, with a substantial chilli texture and fewer distracting hard seeds in every bite.
